The director of our company is a sad individual – he just loves Accountancy!
While normal people studied Sciences and Languages at school, Mark won prizes for Accountancy and Economics (fairly easy when your the only kid doing them:Ed)
Strathclyde University was where Mark picked up his Honours degree. While there he also picked up a talent for Bar Football. This skill was to propel him to the heady title of ‘Scottish Bar Football Champion’ well before ‘Friends’ had made the ‘sport’ trendy, and a sure way to impress women. (if only: Ed)
Starting his career at a small Accountancy firm in Greenock, he was soon attracted to the big smoke and the bright lights of Deloitte, Haskins & Sells’ Glasgow office. This position offered him many experiences including a stint at Prudential Insurance in London to help those actuaries sort out their 5-year plan!
Mark was then wooed to a Glasgow Accountancy firm: Gerber, Landa & Gee. Here the foreign assignments continued as he was put in charge of the first Administration in Scotland, based in Newcastle! He combined the role of Administrator with that of overall sales manager to achieve a successful payout for the creditors.
Despite being made an Associate, after 5 years at GLG, Mark was persuaded to turn from poacher to gamekeeper by one of his clients, and became the Financial Director for a Software Company. The challenges of funding growth and staying solvent were exciting stuff. Mark won over £200K of grants for his company, funding everything from a media campaign (which he also organised), headcount growth and relocation to new premises.
Finally in 1999 Mark decided it was time to go it alone and set up his own company. His practice offers a range of services that represent his broad experience and financial knowledge.
Mark is now married with a son and daughter. He lives in the South Side of Glasgow…and still loves Accountancy. He’s definitely sad…or mad?.
